Pottery workshop at the edge of the woods

At the edge of the woods in Putten is a ceramics studio. You arrive among the trees, and it gets quiet. Inside, a worktable, a turntable and all the time await. For the next two and a half hours, you put your hands in the clay and feel how it yields under your fingers. Soft and earthy, warm from your hands. There is something enchanting about turning: behind your own wheel, you learn to centre the clay, open the shape and pull the wall up layer by layer, until a bowl or cup emerges. It is an ancient craft. In one afternoon, you come to experience it above all, with plenty of room to practice. If you prefer to build freely without a disc, you can choose hand moulding: kneading, rolling, building. You don't need experience; you come to discover, not to perform.

You come with your own company: friends, family or colleagues, from two to six people. For one afternoon, the workshop is yours. What you make will stay behind afterwards to dry, glaze and bake. A few weeks later, you pick up two pieces of your own, or we'll send them to you - handy when you're away for a weekend here in the Veluwe. A workshop costs €90 per person. That includes clay, tools, guidance and firing of your work. There is always room, usually on Wednesday evening and Saturday afternoon, and other times by arrangement.
