Frans Storbeck, computer geologist and scientific collaborator at the Municipal University of Amsterdam, calculated the zwaartepunt van Nederland by computer in 1984. His calculations arrived at the kilometre coordinates 472.7 north and 171.8 east, located within the territory of the municipality of Putten.
In 1984, a stone with a ring was placed at the location of the centre of gravity with the text "Lift the Netherlands by this ring and no one will notice".
