Historical village walk

Whenever my friend and I visit a new place, we always enjoy exploring. We do that with a walking or cycling route and sometimes with a guide. Either way, it is always fun to discover the new location and often we end up in places we would never have seen without that route or guide.

This is one of the reasons I often recommend visitors to Putten to walk the Historic Village Walk. The 4km route, created by the Putten Historical Society, takes you back in time.

Start at the VVV
It has been quite a while since I walked the route myself. Today the sun is shining, the ideal time to refresh my knowledge and dive into Putten's history.
The route starts at the VVV tourist office. While walking the route, I notice things that I normally pass by. For instance, I now see the special stained-glass windows of the Roman Catholic church and the beautiful facades of a number of buildings in the centre suddenly catch my eye.

The photos included in the guide show what Putten looked like in earlier times. Nice to hold up next to today. I wonder what it will look like here in 100 years.

Informative street names
The street names actually give some information already. The Papiermakerstraat, for instance, is there because there used to be three paper mills in Putten. And did you know that Molenweg was also called Poepesteegje? Want to know why? Then take a look at the brochure.

The route also passes through the shopping streets, which I immediately take advantage of and make some purchases. Of course, it is then also time for a cup of tea with some goodies!

The route really comes highly recommended. Apart from tourists, Putten residents should definitely walk this route as well. For families with small children, there is also a fun children's route through the centre of Putten: 'A kiekje in Putten'.
