Land Rover Veluwe Tour "On the Trail" with"Van Het Pad"
On a beautiful Monday, me and my colleagues went "on the road" with the Land Rover of "Van Het PadPad".
We were expected at 09:00 at the Krachtighuizerweg where we were warmly welcomed by owner Kees. Our adventurer's blood was already starting to itch when we saw the sturdy Land Rovers on display, and Kees gave us a very clear explanation of the Land Rover and the route. We were given a dotted-arrow route and quiz questions and assignments to complete along the way. Kees really had thought of everything because we were also given binoculars, a Polaroid camera and a delicious packed lunch including a picnic blanket and an outdoor coffee machine. All this in vintage style. Coolly, colleague Marieke got behind the wheel, colleague Henriette next to her as sharp navigator and me as raving reporter in the back. The adventure could begin.
Watch tower Kootwijkerzand
From the Krachtighuizerweg, the route took us right past vast meadows, fairytale farms and over beautiful dirt roads. By now, it was time to stretch our legs and make our1st stop. We took to heart the " to do" tip we had been given by Kees, namely the Kootwijkerzand. Also known as the Sahara of the Low Countries, the Kootwijkerzand is the largest active sand drift in Western Europe. From the car park you can walk straight to the 13.5-metre high watchtower (the hourglass). From the watchtower you have a fantastic view of the Veluwe. Of course, as the three intrepid adventurers, we had to witness this with our own eyes. And it was well worth the effort. What a magnificent view!
On the road
We would have liked to spend much more time at the Kootwijkerzand but the VVV also had to open again at 13:30 so we were time-bound. And ... that delicious lunch, which had been waiting in the back of the Land Rover for a while, still had to be eaten. So we quickly moved on to follow as much of the route as possible and complete the questions and assignments. Along the way, we were again pleasantly surprised by the beautiful surroundings and lovely sandy paths. Fortunately, the route went smoothly, thanks to the clear dot-arrow route and of course the navigation skills of navigator Henriette and the fearless driving style of driver Marieke. After slightly shortening the route and a small D-tour along the Aardhuis, we arrived at Het Uddelermeer ;an excellent picnic spot.

Arriving at Lake Uddelermeer, we unloaded the necessary picnic gear. What a beautiful nature reserve Lake Uddelermeer is. At this geological relic from the last ice age (pingoruin), we soon found the perfect picnic spot. After having installed ourselves, the great enjoyment could begin. How delicious this was! The coffee was already bubbling nicely and we enjoyed the delicious lunch and the beautiful surroundings of the Uddelermeer. The outdoor feeling was abundant here.
With our bellies nicely filled, we set off for the final point::the Krachtighuizerweg. With pain in our hearts, we said goodbye to our sturdy Land Rover before getting into our own bolides on our way to the VVV. What a super start to a new (work) week, but above all, this was by far the ultimate outdoor experience.
