October 1944 - The story of the Putten raid
On 1 October 1944, the Germans responded with a terrible retaliation to an attack by a resistance group. A raid was carried out in much of Putten and part of Nijkerk. On 2 October, the men were taken away by train to Camp Amersfoort and then taken to various concentration camps. Only dozens of men returned. The final number of victims of the raid comes to 552.

War memories cycling route (35 km)
This route was put together by the PHG and takes you past a large number of historical places in Putten where all kinds of events took place at the time of the Second World War.
The starting point of the 'War Memories Cycle Route' is from the Oude Kerk. The cycle booklet with the cycle route and brief background information ( € 1.95) is available at the VVV Tourist Office in Putten.
