Dogs off!
Putten has several off-leash areas: a stretch in the woods where the dog does not need to be leashed. Although the off-leash area in the Putterbos is the biggest and best known, there are three more beautiful spots that are sure to make for equally lovely walks. See also Wagging enjoyment in Putten | VVV Putten.
PUTTERBOS
The Putterbos is located on the eastern side of Putten, on the edge of het Speulder- en Sprielderbos. A beautiful contiguous forest area, one stretch of which is designated as a dog walking area.
You can park your car right at the edge of the release area, in a car park owned by the Forestry Commission. To do so, follow the Prins Hendrikweg into the forest (dirt road) until you can go no further. On the left, you'll see a large fenced-in playing field and car park. From here, you walk straight into the off-leash area! The off-leash area extends northwards as far as the river Laak. If you keep walking briskly, it will take you about an hour to walk through the off-leash area.
TIP: Would you like to walk a bit longer and not have your dog off the leash all the time? Then start at the car park with the Putterbos walk. This walk is 9.5km and is marked with white/blue posts. It also takes you past areas where the dog must be on a leash.
THE GREAT ARK
My personal favourite is the off-leash area next to De Grote Ark. It’s not very well known and is therefore often a bit quieter than the Putterbos.
De Grote Ark is a stretch of woodland and heathland between Krachtighuizen and Koudhoorn. In summer, you can enjoy spectacular sunrises and sunsets here, and if you’re early enough, you might spot a few deer or wild boar. On cold winter mornings, the whole area is frozen white, which makes for an even more beautiful sight, if that’s possible. The area is divided in two by the Arnhemse Karweg: De Grote Ark (the largest heathland area) is only accessible if your dog is on a lead. The woodland area on the side of the car park is the off-leash area. If you want to walk around the whole area, it will take you at least an hour. You can park in the car park on the Arnhemse Karweg, about 500 metres past ‘t Leemen Huusje.
SMALLER AREAS
Besides the two larger areas, several smaller areas can be found where dogs are allowed off-leash. In Krachtighuizen, these are the area between Oude Prinsenweg/Oude Garderenseweg and Kolthoornseweg and Batosweg. Both areas can be walked in just under half an hour.
PLEASE NOTE
For all the above areas, dogs must be well under guard. Dogs are not allowed to chase game.
